TECHNOLOGY ROCKS – WITH LOVE
One
of our partner schools in PLP (Powerful Learning Practice),
St Christopher’s School in Richmond, Virginia in the United
States, has made the very generous offer of holding a whole
school fundraising campaign for the bushfire victims here in
Victoria. Team leader Hiram Cuevas together with our Head
of Information Services, Jenny Luca devised a plan to
skype
(phone St Christopher’s over the internet). Like ours –
their classroom image was projected onto a screen and there
we were talking face to face to a group of young boys in the
United States on Tuesday 4.00 pm EST which was 8.00 am
Wednesday Australian time!
Principal, Noel Thomas spoke to
the boys about the devastating fires which has touched us
all deeply and brought communities together in a way not
seen in this country before. Our Receptionist Chantal
Berlouis spoke of her experience at loosing their Kinglake
weekend shack set on 120 acres of beautiful bushland, the
home of many native animals.
Questions were asked - how big
the fires were, how quickly they spread, the size of the
area destroyed, how many native animals perished and most
importantly how could they help. I believe we were all
touched by their concern and offer of prayers. |

2008
SCHOOL COLOURS
“It's a
very ancient saying,
but a true and honest thought,
that if you become a teacher,
by your pupils you'll be taught…” (The King and I)
In 2008 I
was taught much about the true meaning of leadership as
service. Of being selfless, generous, passionate, dedicated
but above all ready to acknowledge and celebrate the worth
of others. These attributes were among many that I observed
in the Year 12 students of 2008. An outstanding group in
their willingness to participate in the life of the school,
many shone in their contribution to and participation in,
sport, the performing arts, debating, in service - the list
goes on. However, the ten students who were honoured as the
2008 recipients of School Colours are indeed outstanding
exemplars of those who gave of their time and energies
across many areas while still giving due attention to their
academic studies and for their willingness to recognise and
respond to the needs of others.
We
congratulate and thank the following students for their
willingness to use their talents and energies to enrich the
life of the school, and for their splendid example of
commitment to scholarship and service before self.
