Dear Toorak College Community,
It is with great pride that we inform you of the phenomenal
results of last Thursday’s Toorak College Bushfire Appeal.
As a Whole School Community we came together to support
those affected by the recent bushfires by raising a
staggering total of $10,245.50.
Such a result is reflective of our ability to unite in times
of crisis and demonstrates the generosity and true spirit
that characterises our school. We hope to put these funds
towards the rebuilding and re-equipping of one of the
schools damaged in the fires. Much thought and research is
going into how the money can be best spent.
Once again, our sincere thanks go out to all of those who
have contributed.
With love,
The 2009 Toorak College Prefect Body |

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
In
a week touched by tragedy and during which we have witnessed
havoc wrought upon people and places familiar to us, we are
reminded that it is the spirit of community which generates
the communities that raise the human spirit.
Like many others, as the week
wore on, word filtered through of the extent and impact of
the fires on so many different aspects of our lives –
schools burnt down, children and teachers lost to their
friends and families, homes raised to the ground, school
campsites incinerated and activities and events cancelled.
But at the same time and in similar measure, a wave of
concern and compassion rose and gathered strength as we each
reached out to help in whatever way we could.
I was touched by the strength
and immediacy with which our students wanted to respond.
With the help of staff, our student leaders considered many
options. I was so impressed with the way they came to
reject events which implied that something needed to be
received in order to give. They didn’t want free dress days
and the like. It wasn’t right in their view that we should
seek to benefit in any way, directly or indirectly, from the
pain wrought upon others. They were keen to help in
whatever way they could to contribute, particularly to the
rebuilding and re-equipping of the schools and schooling of
children who had suffered. So, this is what we will seek to
do with the funds available in the months ahead.
