TOORAK COLLEGE WINS GIRLSURF 2008 - GUNNAMATTA

After a shaky start to the day with people driving everywhere trying to determine the best location, we decided to move the location of the competition to Gunnamatta for the first year. The competition was held at 'Second Carpark' on an outgoing tide. There were some decent waves coming through and the depth of water over the sandbar allowed the more inexperienced girls to wade out to catch the reform waves. There was some outstanding surfing on display. Georgia Fish, Emma Versteegen & Bonnie Paterson - Toorak, Nikki Van Dyke - Newhaven, Miranda Bakker - Peninsula, Charlie Brickels - Flinders. The standard was excellent.

The 2008 competition will have a maximum of 5 teams in the water for each heat. That means that the number of teams will be limited to 15. Each member has to catch two waves and then belly into the beach to tag the next member. The highest scoring 5 teams will compete in the final. We intend to finish the competition and presentations by 3:00pm. Cost of entry is $70 per team. At the moment we can only accept one team per school. But things may change depending on the number of teams that enter.

All contestants will receive a competition T-Shirt. Prizes will be awarded for a variety of categories in addition to the Perpetual Shield for the Champion Team. Food and drink will be available on the beach for staff and competition helpers.

Your school will be notified if they have been successful in entering the competition. There are only a certain number of teams that we will be able to deal with on the day, due to our promise to complete the competition by 2:30pm.
