PRODUCT DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY 3&4

Units 3&4 - PDT12

This study engages students in technological tasks with a Textiles bias, that call on their knowledge and understanding of materials and production processes to design and make textile products suitable for their intended purpose -  e.g. clothing, costumes and wearable art.  Students also have opportunities to undertake production activities often related to industrial and commercial practices.

 

 

 

Areas of Study

Units 3 and 4 students explore the complex issues involved in the design and development of a product for the mass market.  They also focus on how judgements of products can be informed by a comparison of products in terms of their quality, usefulness and appeal.  The role and influence of product promotion and marketing are also considered.

1.       Investigation of designers roles and how products are designed and produced to meet the needs of a client.

2.       Explanation of how products are designed and produced within an industrial or commercial setting.

3.       Development of a product for a client.

1.       Examination of relationship between aesthetic appeal, function of products and user needs.

2.       Explanation of the role of marketing in relation to design and product development.

3.       Evaluation of outcomes of design and production activities in relation to the client's needs.

Unit 4
